Shitty gig photos from my shitty camera: Stereophonics
Aimee Mann on tour (photo via TODAYonline)
I wasn’t thinking of seeing Aimee Mann perform that day. Then first thing in the morning, I received an email saying that I won free tickets to the gig. I wasn’t much of fan. Sure I’ve owned 2 of her albums and knew songs from Magnolia, but that’s about it. Still, the concert did not disappoint. With witty banters with the audience and curious anecdotes of her songs, it was the most intimate concert I’ve been. Soon I was humming songs I’ve never heard before.

The ground was muddy and the air was humid, but it didn’t matter. For this was one of the best shows ever to hit our shores. When I saw years ago, they opened for the Foo Fighters, it wasn’t much to shout about. But that was then. The mad energy of the band now was undeniable, and so was the crowd. We were shouting and jumping so much along with lead singer Ricky Wilson that I almost wished I had a beer. And you know it was good when strangers walked up to you and asked how bloody sweet it was.

One thing I discovered during the show was that Liam Gallagher liked to stand at attention. A lot. Anyway, the gig was a mixed bag. There were highlights and there were dull bits. They ended the show with a rendition of “I Am The Walrus” which was a nice surpise. Well, at least, they also played the other songs we all came to hear.
Mystery Jets on tour (photo via MTVASIA)
Mystery Jets was one of those gigs I went in without being much of fan but came out humming their songs on the way home. If I only knew your name, I’d go from door to door… Oops, sorry. One week prior to their show, I educated myself by looping their tracks over and over again on my iPod. You know, just in case I don’t go all wohoo at the wrong beat. But one thing I must say: They were very shiny that day and people like shiny things.

Wo! I’ve survived the mosh pit at the Ash gig by an inch. It was held at a beer festival, so it’s safe to assume that some drunks thought they were at Glastonbury. It was great; Tim Wheeler was all smiles, even when beer cans were thrown in his direction. Well, like he said, them Irish don’t drink at all.

Caught Death Cab live. I wasn’t expecting anything hardcore but boy, were they loud! The lights were amazing, creating an informal but magical atmosphere. Although I wished they would interact with the audience a little more than the Thank Yous. Last song played: Transatlanticism. Oh, Ben looks really different now.
Travis on tour (photo via Travisonline)
Went to the Travis gig last night under the stars. The band played a number of favourites and 4 new songs. While those edgier tracks drew a couple of confusing looks in the audience, but “Song to Self” stood out for me with its beautiful melancholy. At the last encore, Fran Healy asked us to pogo along with “Why Does It Always Rain On Me?”!
